Abraham, offer your son, your only son, the son you love, as a burnt offering. From Cain and Abel onwards, Israel was used to the idea of God determining what sacrifice would be . It was then that God stepped in to save both father and son from the consequences of an uncleansed love. 'Take now thy son,' said God to Abraham, 'thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of' (Gen ).
God told him, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love and go to the land of Moriah and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you. However, when Isaac was about 33 years of age God told Abraham to go to Mount Moriah (known to us now as Mount Calvary) and to kill his son Isaac and offer him to God as a sacrifice. Abraham went to Mount Moriah (Calvary) with a heavy heart, dreading what he had to do. But he was willing to do it because God had commanded him to do so. Even though Abraham loved God and believed what God said a day came when Abraham was tested. The testing day was the day God asked Abraham to do a very difficult thing. During the time of Abraham people showed their devotion to God by placing food or sometimes an animal they had killed on an altar and burning it up.
Abraham trusted God with his best, and God did more with it than Abraham ever could. He made this one child the father of the Hebrew people. Through Isaac’s descendants, God brought his own Son, who died on his own sacrificial wood as our sin offering to God. Abraham’s statement in Gen. reads, “And Abraham said, ‘My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.’ And the two of them went together.” Abraham’s statement here was a prophecy that Christ made through John the Immerser in John “And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, ‘Behold the Lamb of God. The book is written under a pseudonym, Johannes de silentio, who discusses the biblical story of Abraham's obedient response to God's command to sacrifice his only son, Isaac.
